Canaan Kids Artspace Celebrates One Year of Creative Play, Reimagined Materials, and Community

Community invited to anniversary party on Sunday, September 6

NORTH CANAAN, Conn. — Canaan Kids Artspace (CKA) will celebrate the first anniversary of its art studio with a community party on Sunday, September 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. at 27 Railroad Street in North Canaan. The event is free and open to the public.

Since opening its doors a year ago, CKA has built its programming around a simple mission: creative play, reimagined materials, and roots in community. The studio's after-school program has run at full capacity every session, and its free community workshops — including a monthly open studio welcoming all ages — have become a weekend staple for local families.

CKA is committed to keeping its programs accessible to everyone. The organization never turns away a child or family for lack of funds, ensuring that creative opportunities remain open to the entire community regardless of financial circumstance.

The celebration will feature a DJ, and the culmination of a community art project: community members are invited to paint a cardboard box and bring it to the party, or drop it off beforehand. At the party, children will play and build with a massive collection of boxes, and guests of all ages can paint their own on site. Teen volunteers will offer face painting, and Le Petit Ranch will bring sheep for guests to meet and play with. Inside the studio, an open clay craft activity will be available for anyone who wants to get their hands dirty.

The event is sponsored by NBT, with treats donated by Pastries by Hanna, Blackberry River Bistro, and Ilse Cafe.
